All About BOB
The Bend Over Backwards Tribute began followiong the untimely passing of Spaced Out drummer Paul Steer. The band felt strongly about putting together a tribute concert that he would be proud of. The vision was to create a one off gig that would encompass all the bands that Paul had played in while drumming in Milton Keynes along with bands that he had been connected with. On Sunday 14th December the tribute took place under the name Bend Over Backwards Tribute. Following the success of this we created a charity fund to help support local music projects, which will help ensure that music talent in Milton Keynes is recognised and supported. The tribute on the day raised a total of £740.00
Following various discussions we decided to create an annual "Bend Over Backwards Tribute" that would aim to put together the best local covers bands on an afternoon gig at Woughton Leisure Centre. The sentiment of the yearly bash is: "Milton Keynes musicians remembering Milton Keynes musicians and friends" and aims to create a musical celebration to help raise additional funds for the Bend Over Backwards Fund. This fund to date has assisted Buckingham Band Jam who promote local young bands at venues across Milton Keynes and Buckingham. Funds from last years event went towards percussion equipment for sole use by the Bucks Band Jam. In addition funds were given towards an annual "Paul Steer Percussion Award" which was awarded for the first time in January at the Rock School Riot. The continuation of The Bend Over Backwards Tribute enables Milton Keynes' present musicians ensure a bright future for Milton Keynes music, while remembering our former heroes.
Woughton Leisure Centre will again host this years event with the line up resembling the best Sunday Lunchtime bands to grace the stage over the last ten years. This will be the first time that Emperor, Peartree Bridge Family, Gearbox, Spaced Out, Bedside Manor, SouthsideJimmy, Strange Fashion and Mad Mods and Englishmen have all been on the same billing. To top this off admission is free and the traditional burger van will be on hand to ensure that the punters last the distance!!!
